Let’s Get Gutsy!
Recognise these photos? There are plenty of them. Just search for ‘guthealth’, ‘IBS’ or ‘stomach health’ images. But ever wonder why they are never real people (just stock models), why they are only women, and why they all have their faces cut off masking their true identity? Well it masks a more serious issue; gut health is seen as an embarrassing ugly subject.
We are fortunate to work with a number of guthealth academic, researchers and professionals, who recognise this issue. Professor Doreen McClurg at Glasgow Caledonian University life sciences calls this ‘the elephant in the room’ as patients and clinicians are both reluctant to talk about the symptoms, whilst costs of prescriptive laxatives and GP consultations stand at £101 million including £145 million costs of hospital admissions every year.

We recently won a Food Innovation Network award to continue our GutHealth research, and we are in early stages working with a couple of charities. Your support will help us push further. Our campaign statement is simple:
“I/We support the @DrinkBaotic campaign for healthy Gut Health conversations. Let’s turn an ugly subject into a healthy one! “

Like most things with our bodies it’s a complicated picture, but the truth is we should be consuming more natural fibre as part of a balanced diet. Read more: Gut Health blogs.
